Anesthesia and Pain Management Department

The Anesthesia and Pain Management Department is a specialized medical department within Anderson’s Hospital that combines two key areas of focus: anesthesia and pain management. This department is responsible for ensuring patient comfort and safety during surgeries, medical procedures and the management of acute or chronic pain conditions. It is staffed by anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) and pain management specialists who work together to provide comprehensive care.

Key components and functions of our Anesthesia and Pain Management Department include:

1. Preoperative Assessment: Prior to surgery, the anesthesia team evaluates the patient's medical history, current health status and any preexisting medical conditions to develop a safe and effective anesthesia plan.

2. Anesthesia Administration: Anesthesiologists and CRNAs administer anesthesia to patients undergoing surgery or medical procedures, including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia (such as epidurals and nerve blocks) and local anesthesia, depending on the procedure and the patient's needs. They ensure the patient is unconscious or has pain control as needed, monitor vital signs and manage the patient's airway and overall well-being during the procedure.

3. Chronic Pain Management: Patients with chronic pain conditions, such as back pain, neuropathic pain or cancer-related pain, receive comprehensive care, including medication management, physical therapy and psychological support.

4. Postoperative Pain Control: After surgery, our department is responsible for postoperative pain management, ensuring patients are as comfortable as possible during their recovery.

The Anesthesia and Pain Management Department provides a crucial service at Anderson’s Hospital by ensuring patients can undergo surgery or medical procedures with minimal discomfort and risk while also addressing acute and chronic pain conditions that significantly impact a patient's quality of life. This comprehensive approach helps patients manage their pain and improve their overall health and well-being.
